About Us

By the time you have reached the momentous moment where you can look at your work and declare it "ready to publish" you have, more than likely, gone through a whole spectrum of emotions. The initial euphoria of the realisation that you have an idea that is worth developing, the excitement of plotting and character development, the painstaking and arduous research and perhaps the days (or longer) of the terrible affliction that is writer's block. So what next? What indeed! For now you have created something and your work is as precious as a family member, dare we say it? It's your baby and you are just as protective of what you have birthed as a newborn mother.

If you are reading this then you have, or are considering, the option of self publishing. It's a scary first step, but we at Unicus think a brave and right one. You retain all the rights to your work, you call the shots and you set the agenda. This, potentially, is something you do not have the luxury of if you opt for searching out the publishing deal, that elusive so-called pot at the end of the rainbow. But what about marketing?, what about sales promotion?, ISBN numbers? How do you get your work read and how do you get paid for it? These are just some of the questions that really require some sort of answer if you want to move into the world of a published author. Self Publishing can be liberating but it can also be a lonely place and one that is somewhat bewildering.

We have set up our agency with the specific purpose of providing a range of services that we believe will assist you in wherever it is you want to take your written work. Whether it's proof reading, editing or a full and bespoke agency representation we can help you, and at a price that is right for you. We want to accompany you as you start this journey and help you with the experience we have gained from being authors and writers ourselves.

Daniel White has more than 16 years experience with sales and marketing. Having worked for major FTSE 100 companies such as CAPITA, BARCLAYCARD and BARCLAYS he has successfully developed both new and existing products to market. He has worked within retail book selling and was responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with many mainstream publishing houses. Daniel was a Local Business Manager for Barclays and is adept at developing winning sales and business plans along with advising correct and relevant marketing stratagem. An avid reader and Science Fiction fan, Daniel also spends any spare time he may have with his sons or reading.

Suzanne Hartwick's experience begins, first and foremost, with her voracious consumption of all things bookish, but this experience is backed up with a degree in Visual Communication, and a Masters in English Literature. She is no stranger to a wide array of genres, from the hard hitting but sparse style of journalism, to the long, semicolon heavy prose of academic literature. Her true love, however, lies with genre fiction, from science fiction (which she happened to specialize in for her Masters), to horror and fantasy, and to all other permutations of genre that may or may not be thought of yet. She has worked with people on a diverse range of projects, from a YA urban fantasy to a PhD dissertation. Suzanne can not only handle any genre you need to throw her way, but she would be more than happy to work with you on issues of voice, style and word choice, or, if you like, larger issues like story arc and character development.

As for what she does in her spare time, quite simply she reads. Everything she can get her hands on. Somethings never change.
